The Christian Association of Nigeria has said that the security challenges across the country will not instil fear in Christians during the forthcoming Christmas celebration.
The association, however asked Christians to “defend themselves when it becomes necessary” in the face of any provocation.
The General Secretary of CAN, Dr. Musa Asake and its Director of National Issues, Mr. Sunny Oibe, stated these in separate interviews with SUNDAY PUNCH in Abuja.
Asake said, “The current state of insecurity in the country will not in anyway prevent churches from having larger gatherings to celebrate Christmas. The Department of State Services has alerted people and all I can say is that churches should beef up their security by protecting the places of worship and homes.
In his reaction, Oibe said, “Christians will gather to celebrate the birth of their saviour, Jesus Christ; the one and only reigning King, with or without the security challenges confronting our dear nation. Our security and safety is in the name of the Lord of Host. Our faith is unshaken and cannot be shattered by the activities and forces of evil men creating fear in the land.”
