Bode George, one of the chairmanship aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has withdrawn from the race.
George announced his decision to step down at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday night.
The politician criticised the leadership of the party for not micro-zoning the office of the national chairman.
George also accused Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers state, of abusing Yoruba people by saying the south-west has not made any meaningful contribution to the success of the PDP.
Wike is routing for Uche Secondus, one of the eight aspirants left in the race.
Apart from Secondus, others seeking to lead the party are Tunde Adeniran, Taoheed Adedoja, Raymond Dokpesi, Rashidi Ladoja, Gbenga Daniel, Jimi Agbaje and Aderemi Olusegun.
Earlier, the screening committee chaired by Osagie Ize-Iyamu, candidate of the PDP in the 2016 governorship election in Edo, had cleared George for the convention scheduled for Eagle Square, Abuja.
In 2001, George was PDP’s national vice-chairman in the south-west zone. Later he became party’s deputy national chairman, south, and then the national deputy chairman.
