Like an afterthought, the radical and aging former Governor of Kaduna state has come out with a verdict that Hausa and Yoruba are the problems of the country and that Igbo should now be ready to rule Nigeria.
The former radical governor of the PRP who was impeached midway into his first term is suddenly realising that the problems of the country are largely caused by Hausa and Yoruba. If he has expressed his idea early enough the Igbo, who are equally polarised into the APC and the PDP, could have projected one of their own to assume the leadership of the country.
The All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, spear-headed by late Ikemba Nnewi, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, before his demise is only operational in Anambra state. The Yoruba and Igbo are playing second fiddle in the two leading parties in Osinbajo APC and Peter Obi in PDP.
The Igbo political heavy weights like Jim Nwobodo and Ken Nnamani are lost in between, while Orji Kalu is currently hibernating in Germany for an undisclosed health matter. Who amongst the Igbo is ready for a presidential battle? Will the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu fit the bill?
From the array of possible Igbo politicians I seem to admire one Nwodo junior whose impeccable eloquence on campaign grounds I largely admire. He is the kind of Igbo man who should be encouraged to step out for a presidential assignment. His oratorical powers reminds one of the days of the Zik of Africa.
Igbo Presidency is a historical necessity for the proper balancing act to keep it standing on a crucial tripod; Igbo Hausa And Yoruba Triangle.
The inherent disunity amongst their ranks is so debilitating that seeking for unity amongst our Igbo brothers is like wanting to look for a needle in a haystack.
After the 2019 general elections we shall know where the Igbo presidential pendulum would swing to.
They are so egalitarian to the point where everyone wants to lead. Ironically, their business acumen thrives on apprenticeship from sales boy to becoming the Master importer and exporter limited.
Since Dr. Alex Ekwueme left the political scene before he died, Igbo had always reached the number three position in the country. In the case of Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, he was a ceremonial president with powers residing with Tafawa Balewa who was the Prime Minister.
The Igbo had produced a brilliant Chuba Okadigbo as Senate President, Kenneth Nnamani also was number three but, somehow, they had failed to rise above the proverbial Eyimba Eyin sloganeering and dancing songs.
Money is not their problem but the right use of money seems to be a stumbling block with the Igbo. If Nigeria’s presidency was for sale they could easily buy it without qualms.
With Balarabe Musa’s call for an Igbo presidency, would they throw in their towel to prepare themselves for a President of Igbo extraction in 2023 Or there about?
My reading of the Igbo style is to divide themselves into mushroom parties where they become founders and Party chairmen. They like to swim like big fishes in small ponds. Visibility or lack of it is their problem.
As great merchants and traders some cynical Nigerians believe rather falsely that an Igbo President could easily barter off the country for more sumptuous business proposals from abroad. Nigeria’s oil and gas is the most tempting area for businesses to deal in.
But after many years in Siberia concerning the topmost post in the country, Igbo should be better prepared for the topmost job of President.
Apart from the continuous propaganda by Nnamdi Kanu of the IPOB fame the call for a Baifran Republic is another factor frightening the North who are so scared of the Biafran space and Independence.
I am comfortable with an Igbo presidency but there must be a call to discontinue the clarion calls for Biafra as an Independent Country. When we look at Nigeria, there are sprinklings of people of Igbo extraction in Delta and Rivers states.
From today, let the Igbo realise that their destiny is in their hands. The zeal with which they pursued multi- billion contracts over the years should now be pigeon-holed into presidential preparations.
Let Igbo stand up for recognition and politically equalise themselves in the Nigerian polity. As we await the bold and young minds amongst the Igbo to demonstrate their political relevance, at home and in the diaspora, I will continue to call for their presidency in the country.
Come out the Nwobodos, Nwodos, Nnamanis and Ekweremadus. The time is ripe. Let us all come together and make the Igbo the most outstanding traders and businessmen of Africa.
