The unfortunate truth is that Nyesom Wike can actually use his boys at the Rivers State legislature to impeach governor Fubara even without following the laid down process of impeachment and NOTHING WILL HAPPEN. They can even bypass the state Chief Judge role.

1. All the 27 rivers lawmakers, including those from the governor’s ethnic group (this is the part I still don’t understand), are Wike’s puppets.

2. Wike has the full support of Bola Ahmed Tinubu who desperately need the state ahead of 2027 and both men will see the state burn if only the ashes will serve their political need.

3. Wike has the entire Nigerian judiciary IN HIS POCKET ready and willing to put judicial stamp on any kangaroo impeachment. Any Nigerian who think he can defeat Wike in the Nigerian court is a John Snow. And remember, the Judiciary is currently headed by the same woman who declared Hope Uzodimma – a man who came a distant 4th and didn’t win even a single local govt – as governor in Imo.

4. Fubara’s grassroot/street support seems to be exaggerated. Even the militants backing him have proven to be all talk and no action as Wike’s recent visit to Kalabari, has shown. First, he went on a national TV to dismiss the Ijaws as a minority good at making empty threat and quickly followed it up with a visit to the same people amidst a rousing welcome even after he teargassed their women along the way. Then, right there in their ancestral home, he repeated everything he said on national TV amidst cheers and applause from the same people whose chance at ruling the state after a very long while, he is determined to truncate.

Again, Wike can remove Fubara even by bypassing the state Chief Judge’s role and NOTHING WILL HAPPEN. Only those of you who haven’t read Dele Farotimi ‘s book: ‘Nigeria And Its Criminal Justice System’ will try to argue this.

Fubara needs to sit up or sit out. Rivers politics has no room for a middle ground. It is either you fight to finish or you surrender like a coward.
