Arms probe: Dasuki to shun EFCC summon ………. PUNCH

DASUKI

There are indications that the former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd), might not appear at the Idiagbon House headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Monday (today) as scheduled.

A source told our correspondent that lawyers to the former NSA had written to notify the commission that Dasuki would not be able to honour the invitation because of the prevailing security siege on his house by the operatives of the Department of State Services.

The lawyers reportedly said it would be impossible for the NSA, who was under movement restriction, to go out to honour the invitation by the DSS.

The source further said that the NSA would honour the invitation whenever the DSS’s siege on his Asokoro residence was lifted.

It was gathered that the letter was sent to the Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, a member of the Arms Probe Panel before his recent appointment at the weekend.

The source said, “You see, these things are not like that. How do you expect him to honour the invitation when the DSSS are restricting him? He cannot leave that place.

“That is why his lawyers have written to the Acting Chairman of the EFCC to notify him that he would not be able to go to the commission.

“What I am saying is that Dasuki is not refusing to appear before the commission; he would go whenever the SSS are pulled out of the place.”

Sunday PUNCH had reported exclusively that the new EFCC boss had constituted a 27-man team to take over the investigation into the John Ode-led panel’s report.

It was stated that the Presidency referred the panel’s report to the EFCC to carry out a thorough investigation into the report.

Our correspondent could not reach the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, to comment on the story as the calls to his mobile telephone line indicated that it was either switched off or in an area outside network coverage.
