APC Crisis: Oyegun Begs Party Chairmen | Tribune

DESPITE his successful postponement of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) National Executive Committee, (NEC) meeting, there is no respite yet for the embattled national chairman of the ruling party, Odigie Oyegun as those smarting for his removal have not given up on their plot.

Tribune Online gathered that one of the aggrieved groups, forum of Non-National Working Committee (NWC) members have since written another letter to President Muhammadu Buhari demanding for a meeting to enable them ventilate their grievances.

Tribune Online checks revealed that in an earlier letter dated April 6, 2017 and entitled, “Save our party-APC”, the forum demanded that a meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) be urgently convened to save the ruling party from “preventable, avoidable and unnecessary intra-party cracks that the present situation might generate.

“We are equally greatly displeased with the ways of handling party matters solely by the National Working Committee only without any recourse to the NEC from which NWC derived her powers.

“Also to be noted for appropriate advice is the exclusion of sizeable number of federating states from scheme of things within the party because many states are not presently represented by party officers on the current National Working Committee, hence, the need to be having regular NEC meetings pending the much awaited amendment to the present party constitution.’’

But in a reminder dated April, 24, 2017, signed by Hon Omolayo Akintola, and addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari and his deputy, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, they pleaded with the president on the need to react to their first letter.

The letter read in part: “Arising from our forum’s meeting held this day Monday, April 20, 2017, which had earlier been fixed in the anticipation of NEC meeting fixed for Tuesday, April 25, 2017, which was postponed about five or four days ago necessitated the writing of this letter as a considered necessary reminder hinged on the fundamental importance of the said letter dated 6/4/2017 titled “Save our party.”

“As co-stakeholders and representatives of the federating states in our great party, we humbly deemed it fit to painstakingly wait for your Excellency’s expected reaction/steps to properly address the undiluted facts/issues raised in the said letter through political approaches or dialogue/meeting that your Excellency might consider most convenient.”

Tribune Online further gathered that members of the forum met on Tuesday morning at an undisclosed hotel in Abuja, where they restated their resolve to join forces with those plotting to remove Chief Oyegun as national chairman of the ruling party.

Further findings revealed that in his move to placate those plotting his removal, Chief Oyegun and certain members of his national working committee held a closed door meeting yesterday with forum of state chairmen, where he pleaded with them not to join forces with those agitating for his removal.

The APC national chairman has also fixed a meeting for today with governors on the party platform. The governors will be led to the meeting by their Imo state counterpart, Rochas Okorocha, who is the chairman of All Progressives Governors Forum, (APGF).

Besides the national caucus, the governors are equally scheming to unseat the former Edo state governor.

Addressing newsmen at the end of the meeting with the party chairmen, national publicity secretary of the party, Bolaji Abdullahi confirmed today’s scheduled meeting with the governors. He disclosed that the meeting was important to enable the national working committee plan with them ahead of the National Executive Committee meeting.

‘’The NEC meeting was postponed, because many of the governors weren’t around, but we are happy that they are now in the country.’’

He declined comments on the letter written to the Presidency by the forum of Non-National Working Committee (NWC) members as he dismissed the forum as nonexistent and not recognized by the party constitution.
