Algeria defeated Senegal 1-0 at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo on June 27 when both sides met in the Group C match. Youcef Belaili scored four minutes after the break to give Les Fennecs their second win of the campaign then.
Le Fennecs are the only team in Egypt who never lost a game.
Baghdad Bounedjah’s 2nd-minute goal was good enough to hand the Djamel Belmadi’s boy’s their second AFCON title, 29-years after the first in 1990 on the home soil.
Senegal came back stronger after conceding Bounedjah’s early goal but unable to find a way past the Algerian defence.
It ended 1-0 at the end of half time.
Algeria came into the second half gun blazing.
The number one ranked team in Africa wasted many scoring opportunities to restore parity in the second half.
Niang wasted a good chance to draw Senegal level in the 76th minute.
That was a good chance for Ismaila Sarr also wasted a good chance in the 83rd minute.
Senegal has not beaten Algeria in five encounters, losing four of them, and have never beaten the North African side at AFCON.
