Med-View Airline customers were once again abandoned in Lagos on Monday, as the troubled carrier failed to fly them out to London for the second day in a row.
The airline assured its customers stranded at Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Sunday that it would airlift the passengers to London-Gatwick on Monday, but could not do so due to the non-availability of an operating aircraft.
Med-View also partially blamed the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for its woes, as it claimed that the failure of the regulatory agency to issue the certification to its wet-leased aircraft was responsible for the cancellation of flights in recent days.
Our correspondent learned that Monday’s scheduled flight has been rescheduled for Tuesday at 13:30 hours. The airline has also stranded Lagos-bound passengers in London, who are scheduled to depart the British capital tonight.
When our correspondent visited the international wing of the Lagos airport on Monday, none of the airline passengers were at the terminal while the airline’s counters were closed.
A source close to the airline told our correspondent that text messages and emails were sent to the affected passengers while those in hotels in Lagos were already notified of the second cancellation from Lagos.
Also, it was learnt that at least 11 passengers were transferred to Turkish Airlines on Sunday and an additional two who had urgent visa issues were put on Ethiopian Airlines.
“We could not carry more passengers with us on Sunday, especially with European carriers, as their fees are much expensive than what we charge on our flight,” the source told SaharaReporters. “Airlines like British Airways, KLM, Air France and Lufthansa were not approached because their fares are way higher than what we charge.”
