UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya has reacted to the US Supreme Court hearing against abortion telling them to ban condoms as well.
The Supreme Court of the United States of America passed the most stringent anti-abortion law in its history on Friday. The court ended the right to abortion in a strict ruling that destroyed half a century of constitutional protections on one of the most divisive and bitterly fought issues in American political life.
The court dominated by conservatives, overturned the landmark 1973 “Roe v Wade” decision that empowered a woman’s right to an abortion, saying that individual states can now permit or restrict the procedure themselves.
“The Constitution does not prohibit the citizens of each State from regulating or prohibiting abortion,” he said.
This ruling is expected to lead to a series of new laws being drafted in roughly half of the 50 US states that will severely restrict or outright ban and criminalize abortions, forcing women to travel long distances to states that still permit the procedure.
Adesanya is not known to mince words while speaking his mind and has expressed his agitations with New Zealand in the past. He always sticks out his opinions on things that matter on social media.
He reacted to the news on Twitter by saying, ‘Ban condoms then’
The court’s ruling shredded the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling by the nation’s highest court that said women had the right to abortion based on the constitutional right to privacy over their own bodies. Many have viewed the latest ruling as turning back the clock to 50 pus years and inhuman.
Fellow UFC star Derek Brunson, who hails from North Carolina, a state where the fate of abortion laws still remains uncertain, broke his silence over the overturning of the ruling.
He wrote, “men shouldn’t be making laws about women’s bodies.”
The ‘Last Stylebender’ is all set to fight for his fifth title defense against Jared Cannonier at UFC 276.
