The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-olu has appointed the former commissioner for Home Affairs, Dr. Abdul Lateef Abdul Hakeem as the 2019 Amir – ul Hajj.
The appointment was confirmed by the Office of the Governor through the Office of the Chief of Staff, which issued directive to that effect and directed it to the Board Secretary Mr. Rahman Ishola for necessary ceremony and handing over of office to the new appointee.
According to the statement, the former commissioner was appointed based on his past record of achievements during his tenure as the Commissioner of Home Affairs and Amir-ul Hajj of Lagos State.
In 2017, the Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria, Lagos Chapter, honoured him with an award of a performing Amir Hajj. The award was presented to him during MMPN annual conference held at the Multi Purpose Hall of Alausa Secretariat Mosque, Lagos.
Also in 2018, the National Hajj Commission, NAHCON gave the board ‘The Most Disciplined Award’ during a post Arafat stakeholders’ meeting held in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. Sanwo-olu, therefore, urged the newly appointed Amir -ul Hajj to sustain his past records and ensure that he takes the Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board to a greater height.
