It is important to know the climate of the country you’re visiting. You don’t want to get your body shocked into oblivion when you realise that temperatures drop incredibly low in the night. This especially true for countries with four seasons. Be prepared — with Malaysia’s summer heat and relentlessly high humidity all year round, it may be difficult to gauge the climate of colder countries and how you should dress to comfortably live through your trip.
Worse still, you might find out that you have brought too little clothing to account for the winter weather! What that means is that you’ll have to do some extra shopping while you’re there. Sure, it may be fun for some, but for those with a tighter budget, that’s just more money being spent on something you didn’t actually need in the first place. Might as well start your shopping pre-departure. Find amazingly affordable winter fashion on sites like ASOS!
2. Hopping onto the first supposedly best flight and accommodation deal
Flight and accommodation deals are turbulent. You can’t actually predict when their costs are climbing or descending — or can you? There are strategies that you can adopt to ensure that you spend as minimal as possible. Since these businesses run on a daily basis, they need to ensure that their services and inventory (flight seats and rooms) are fully booked before the plane takes off or before the day ends.
If there are still many empty seats or rooms left, the business providers will decrease the price ensure that their inventory gets booked. It’s better to sell at a cheaper price than to conclude a loss from having to maintain an empty room.
3. Booking group flights individually out of personal convenience
No no no no no. Bad idea. It pays to book as a group and I mean it literally. When you book your flights (and hotel rooms) from ShopBack, you’ll actually receive a percentage of the amount you spend back to you as cashback. It means you’ll be paid when you shop online!
Expedia and AirAsiaGo are two great merchants under ShopBack that offer up to 8% in cashback, so you’ll stand to claim over RM 100 in cash returns when you make your travel plans with these sites. Thus, when you book as a group, you’ll be receiving a greater amount of
Thus, when you book as a group, you’ll be receiving a greater amount of cashback. You can then distribute the amount fairly amongst your peers (or not) once you’ve cashed out. Visit ShopBack’s portal to find out more!
4. Not setting an objective before travelling
You need to settle on an objective before travelling. An agenda for visiting another country, if you will. If not, you’re only going to waste your time in that new environment (unless of course, you fly to that country almost every other day, in which case, the environment is certainly not ‘new’).
Set a big idea. Shopping in Bangkok, beach holiday in Bali, experience culture in Seoul and fandom in Akihabara! Once you’ve got these big ideas out, plan your trips accordingly. Your itinerary should encompass these characteristics (shopping, beach activities etc.). You can easily find suggestions on activities and attractions on sites like Expedia’s Things To Do section, and your destination’s local Groupon site!
5. Not prioritising your medical supplies
I don’t understand this. How can you not prioritise on your medical supplies? Do you not love yourself? It is imperative that you spend some time acquiring the necessary items. Being in a new country means that many things happen differently.
The people, traffic and culture. Let’s not be all negative about it, of course. But still, you’ll never know what may happen while you’re out. It really helps to be prepared! When you’re injured or having a sudden headache, you’re the only one that can help yourself! No one wants to spend their time in another country visiting the doctor. Worse still, the hospital. So know how to treat yourself!
So stop making these mistakes before you set yourself out to travel! Be physically and mentally prepared. Also, let ShopBack help you with your bookings! With merchants such as Agoda, Hotels.com, AirAsiaGo and Expedia, you’ll be accumulating cashback!
