A fleeing 14-year-old boy, Israel Solomon of Birom tribe, Jos, Plateau State, was on Monday found by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command.
Solomon was reported to be wandering around Ojota bus stop, after fleeing his parents’ home at Mango Junction, opposite Gada Biyu, Jos.
PUNCH Metro learnt that he could not give reasons for his action.
Solomon, who said he had no relative in Lagos, reportedly passed the night under the bridge at Ojodu Berger.
In his statement to the police, Solomon said, “The bus that conveyed me from Jos got to Lagos late on Sunday. I passed the night under the bridge at the Ojodu Berger bus stop.
“I don’t know anybody in Lagos before embarking on the journey. I was trekking from Ojodu Berger to Ojota when a policeman sighted me.”
A source said checks on Solomon’s body did not show any mark of physical abuse, adding that radio signals would be sent to a closest police station in Plateau State to facilitate his return to Jos.
He said, “Solomon could not give reasons why he ran away from home. All entreaties to make him give reasons for his actions proved abortive.
“He could not provide the phone contact of his parents or any of his relatives. He has been taken to the Olusosun Police Station in Ojota by the RRS team.”
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmus, had yet to respond to a text message sent to her mobile phone on the matter.
