Ifedayo Olarinde, Cool fm OAP popularly known as Freeze, has accused Onyeka Onwenu of creating unnecessary tension with the statement on her disengagement from the National Centre for Women Development. Onwenu, former director-general of the centre, released a strong worded statement on Thursday explaining how attempts were made to frustrate her during her tenure.

Reacting, Olarinde took to his Instagram page on Friday to express his opinion. “Dear Madam, you were not sacked because you are Igbo, stop creating unnecessary tension in an already volatile situation you are not helping matters,” he wrote.

“How long did you really expect to eat under 2 different regimes and what really did you have to offer? “Lose statements like ‘Buhari sacked me because I am Igbo’ would only serve to fuel more hatred and animosity. Sit at home and face your issue without dragging an innocent nation into your personal battle.”

He argued that her statements could lead Nigeria into bigger problems than it is currently experiencing.

“If Nigeria goes to war, poor, innocent and helpless people would suffer. Syria has a population of 25 million people, far less than LAGOS state alone yet the world can’t handle its refuge crisis.

I shudder to imagine our own.” However, Onwenu, while claiming that she was victimised for being Igbo in the statement, did not say the president sacked her for ethnicity.

She said: “I was initially dismissed as just a musician. When that did not work, I was targeted and abused for being an Igbo woman who came to give jobs to and elevate my people while sidelining them.

When these detractors could not provide answers to the spate of improvement we were bringing, they resorted to sabotage and blackmail.

“At no time during this melee did I threaten to sue Mr President for asking me to disengage. Why would I? Is it not within his authority. Even if it were not, is the Center my personal property. I had done my best and if it was time to go, it was that simple. Life continues.”
