Ways to Battle Mental Illness, Anxiety Disorders, and Depression with the Bible the Greatest Self Help Book: Even if you are not a Christian or Religious

There is an ancient text that can defeat the darkness of anxiety and depression. Wisdom before its time and when read can heal even if you are not religious.

The Bible is the most controversial book in the history of man. People have been killed over it and it has been deemed illegal in many countries. Many people such as agnostic and Atheist dismiss the bible and God not purely on scientific theories, but also their misunderstanding of what the Bible is. ” If there was a loving God, why is their death, murder, rape, anxiety, depression, mental illness, cancer etc, etc, etc.

The truth is God never said before there will be no suffering in the world, and it breaks His heart to see it. He gave us free will which is a gift and a tragedy. But I am sure if it came down to it, people will vote for the free will. I personally would want to hold my sons in my arms for eternity, never letting them out of my sight, never letting them experience the bad in this world, never be hurt, and never seeing what the world really is. But if I did that they would never grow and experience joy. They would not know what its like to overcome tragedy which is inevitable.

God is not evil, people are Evil. We shouldn’t label races of humanity, the religions and beliefs. There are only 2 races in this world that needs to be labeled. Good people and Evil people.

All the evil in the world we will experience anxiety and sadness. But there is the more serious and involuntary anxiety disorders, depression, and other mental illnesses. Luckily we were given a great gift in the Bible and that is the word of God and the knowledge to defeat our demons. Even if you have no religious background or just don’t believe in God, these are the Greatest words of Wisdom in the History of mankind and one of the most notorious self help Books written.

Read these words of life, truth, and light. For darkness cannot beat the light. Even darkness can’t beat the small flickering flame of a candle. Soak the words in, read them over and over, and pray them out loud until they become so familiar to you they will start to replace all of the negativity that consumes your mind that you are in constant war over. These words will bring in the cavalry of Hope, without Hope you will not be able to see the future positive outcome your life is capable of. There will be no motivation to bring down the walls of depression and destroy your anxiety disorder for good.

Below I wrote the Bible verses that have helped me overcome my mental illness along with the explanations I see within them and how they helped me. I have also kept these verses on flashcards for easy access when I needed them.

I read words – of life – of truth. Soaking them in, over and over, praying them out loud. Until they became so familiar, they replaced the other things in my mind that I’d battled against. There’s nothing magical about words and verses, but there is power through them, because they’re God’s words.

Be active in giving, be active in our sowing, be active in our prayer and meditation, and be active in our supplication and thanksgiving. Phil 4:6-7

If you are doing these at all time there will be no room in your mind or life for depression and anxiety to manifest. This is a positive destraction, a effective meditation that can be done ever second of every minute of the day. This will be hard at first and like everything that changes it will need work, but it will become second nature to you and watch the new you emerge like a Pheonix.

Keep your eyes clear, without covetousness fixed upon spiritual purpose. Light will enter our bodies and soul and keep out the darkness Matthew 6:22-23

Keep your eyes fixed on the positive, keep your head clear of evil and distraction from your true purpose in life. The positive light will feel your body with positive energy. No darkness can defeat the smallest amount of light.
Matthew 6:27 can stress add one cubit to his stature

We all know that stressing will not help the situation and it is a pointless labor. But with Anxiety disorders and depression easier said than done. But if this can become you rmantra, if this can be something you keep with you and remind yourself when you have these feelings, it will at least soften the blows. I can’t tell you one Therapist I have gone to that has ask me what the worrying and anxiety has accomplished. It is a textbook method that was established 2000 years ago by Jesus.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

My prayer method would be just to lay in bed and talk to God, carry an actual conversation like I would anybody else, but a little more personnel and inquisitive. I always felt so good after I was done and my head was clear and calm. I also noted the scientific benefits of prayer in one of my previous blogs:

1. Prayer improves self-control

2. Prayer makes you nicer

3. Prayer makes you more forgiving

4. Prayer increases trust

5. Prayer offsets the negative health effects of stress

Researchers found that people who prayed for others were less vulnerable to the negative physical health effects associated with financial stress. Also, it was the focus on others that seemed to be contributing to the stress-buffering effects of prayer. Praying for material gain did not counter the effects of stress. So thinking about the welfare of others may be a crucial component of receiving personal benefits from prayer.

“An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up.” Proverbs 12:25
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:34

This is an accurate description of mindfulness, to live in the moment. This is a well studied form of meditation today and brings many benefits to our stress, anxiety, and depression:

Mindfulness strengthened immune system and physiological responses to stress and negative emotions.
This practice improved social relationships with family and strangers.

It reduced stress, depression, and anxiety and increased well-being and happiness.

It increased openness to experience, conscientiousness, and agreeableness and reduced negative associations with neuroticism.

Can lead to greater psychological mindfulness, which included an awareness that is clear, nonconceptual, and flexible; a practical stance toward reality; and present attention to the individual’s consciousness and awareness.
Other Verses that help with Anxiety and Depression:

“Do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?” Luke 12:22-26

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” Psalm 23:4

“The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?” Psalm 27:1
2 Samuel 22:29 – You are my lamp O Lord; the Lord turns my darkness into light.

Ecclesiastes 9:4 – Anyone who is among the living has hope.

Psalm 34:18, 19 – The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. (19) A righteous man may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all.
