Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, the former Governor of Bayelsa State, was convicted of fraud after he pleaded guilty to false declaration of assets and money laundering at a Federal High Court in Lagos.
He was subsequently jailed for two years with most of his assets confiscated. He spent most of his prison term in a hospital.
Mr. Alamieyeseigha, whom Mr Jonathan recently described as his political mentor, is a fugitive who jumped bail in the United Kingdom. He was first elected as governor on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party in 1999 and re-elected in 2003 after his first term in office.

  1. This is really discouraging that our leaders dont think before an action. All this ALAMS issue is a signal that our leaders has no agenda for Nigeria’s future, I can see Nigeria crying for her tommorrow. With all these encouragement of fraud, whats the hope for the next generation?

  2. The man has been striped of the loot, convicted, served jail term what else do you want out of him? The legislatures that are daily looting the treasury with their jumbo allowances have not been implored to disclose their renumeration. I beg o make una leave Alarms alone o!;>

  3. Now lets be fair, if Alamieyeseigha can get a presidential pardon why can’t BOKO HARAM and co. get AMNESTY.

Clearly, a lot of people would have been saved with the unimaginable amount of money Alamieyeseigha stole from the Bayelsa state treasury.

You don’t expect that things like this would go on and there won’t be counter reaction.

To every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

come 2015, we must make the right choice

  4. Its shocking to learn that we have a leadership that has a taste for rewarding criminals and militants.

  5. it’s when so called leader like these see that they have monkey or MUMU as followers that they do all evil things they are doing. to those who are thinking properly, let’s look for another party with good representatives. hunnnnnnnnnn! IRE o

  6. I am afraid we are headed for a collapse. Our Leaders are persistently drilling down a rock seated on a lava. We have to pray so that 2015 election will not be a volcano.
