Reps investigate NCC, telecom operators over SIM cards ….. VANGUARD

dogaraABUJA—THE House of Representatives is set to probe Nigeria Communications Commission,NCC, and the nation’s telecommunications providers over non-compliance with the directive to deactivate unregistered Subscriber Identity Module, SIM, cards on their networks.

The House would also investigate allegation of allied abuses of good corporate governance by the service providers.

The House specifically resolved to investigate the NCC on the N6.1 billion appropriated for the SIM registration exercise by the National Assembly.

This development was sequel to a motion moved by Oluwole Oke under matters of urgent national importance, entitled Motion for the investigation of the non-compliance of telecommunications companies with directives to deactivate unregistered Subscriber Identity Module, SIM, cards on their networks and allegation of allied abuses of good corporate government by telecommunication companies operating in Nigeria.

Oke expressed worry that NCC discovered in December 2014 that about 45 percent of registered SIM cards on the mobile network were invalid due to non-registration or improper registration.
