Ozekhome’s book, recipe for Nigeria’s problems –Olanipekun

Former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Chief Wole Olanipekun ( SAN), has described the book “Zoning to Unzone: The Politics of Power and the Power of Politics in Nigeria” written by constitutional lawyer, Chief Ozekhome (SAN), as a necessary intervention that will assist Nigeria overcome her challenges .

He said the book, which will be formally unveiled at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja on February 9, is a bold and genuine effort at locating the problems plaguing the country. Olanipekun counselled leaders and the masses to read and assimilate issues raised in the book.

His advice is contained in the book’s forward, which he wrote. Stressing that Nigeria is faced with myriads of challenges, some of them avoidable, the eminent lawyer praised Ozekhome for thinking out ways of addressing controversial issues like minority rights, rotational presidency, resource control, federal character, among others, which he said had been holding Nigeria down.

The legal luminary also said “although opinions differ and conclusions are divergent on the way forward for Nigeria, the fact remains that there is a consensus ad idem amongst all writers, columnists, pontificators polemists and commentators alike that all is not well with Nigeria and that there must be a change from the present ‘unfederal’ Federalism.”

He continued: “It should not and cannot be business as usual or a continuation of the saying that ‘as it was in the beginning , it is now, and ever shall be. As a result of our multifarious and multi-dimensional problems, a good chunk of which are self imposed and inflicted, Zoning to Unzone: The Politics of Power and the Power of Politics in Nigeria could not have come at a more auspicious time .”

The book presentation, will be hosted by the Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole. Dignitaries expected at the book launch include Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Victor Attah and comedians, Aki and Paw-paw.
