Noise Pollution In Shomolu By Funmilola Adewumi

Good afternoon,

I write to complain about the noise pollution on Onajimi Street, and Anifowose Street, Popoola Street and Awofodu Street.

There are two mosques and two churches on Onajimi Street. The church (19/21 Onajimi Str) is in an uncompleted building and just last week, it held three vigils from Wednesday, May 16, 2018 to Friday May 18, 2018. The mosque on Onajimi holds prayers from 5am, every morning, till 8pm at the loudest their speakers can reach. The church I speak of is notorious for holding vigils during the week, and will still hold one on Friday. It has become so regular that we avoid staying at home on Fridays because we know they will hold a vigil till 6am.

There are three mosques on Anifowose and one mosque on Awofodu; these mosques are the bane of our existence!!! One of mosques on Anifowose is on corner piece of Anifowose/Awofodu junction, and it seems to be in competition with the church I mentioned in the paragraph above on Onajimi street. Whenever the church holds a vigil, the mosque on Anifowose/Awofodu will hold prayers at 12 midnight, for about an hour. Their noise levels are so high no one is allowed to sleep. That is minus the other mosques on the Anifowose road, down to Market Street (Alade Market).

Finally, the mosque on Popoola is also quite loud, and their prayers keep us awake in the early hours.

These challenges come with LASG’s road construction, which has made access to our homes extremely difficult. To add the noise pollution of these religious institutions to the current challenge of the road construction and sanitation issues is one too many.

We seek you urgent assistance, as the stress levels we have had to endure have become unbearable. Please find my contact details below:

Best Regards,
‘Funmilola Adewumi

  1. I find these complaints embarrassing as I expected the writer to hinged more on the reggae hullabaloo in between the two streets mentioned. I lived there for more than ten years before relocating to my home, so I pretty know what I am saying. Why attacking religious bodies as against the reggae nuisance in the same place.
Why attacking government infrastructure of road instead of celebrating it. I am one of those that celebrated the road construction when it happened and I wondered why one will be so cynical about such development.
Please Jimmy take a walk in that place before you react as this complaint looks tooth grinding.
