Labour Party congratulates Buhari, recommends Jonathan for Nobel Prize

jonaThe Labour Party has felicitated with the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, and the All Progressives Congress, for their resounding success in the March 28 presidential election.

The party’s secretary, Kayode Ajulo, communicated the party’s position in a statement.

Given the large number of people who voted during the election for Mr. Buhari, the LP called on the political class to respect the wishes of Nigerians.

“We, therefore, in the quest for peace and tranquillity in our country; send hearty congratulations to the President-elect, Major-General General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd.) and his party, All Progressives Congress,” the LP stated.

“We also seize this opportunity to congratulate President Goodluck Jonathan for his forthrightness, commitment to the advancement of Nigerian democracy, selflessness and resilience in the face of all odds.

“The battle has been lost and won, but this does not preclude a thorough and sincere appreciation of the events that transpired before during and after the election.

“These events, I make bold to say, are further vindication of my earlier positions on the political situation and the electioneering process in general.”

The party commended President Goodluck Jonathan for reaching out to and conceding defeat to Mr. Buhari.

By putting a call to the president-elect and conceding defeat even before the Independent National Electoral Commission declared the result of the election, the LP said Mr. Jonathan has demonstrated extraordinary patriotism and statesmanship.

The party, therefore, nominated Mr. Jonathan for a Nobel Peace Prize for what it described as the president’s “indelible conduct” before, during and after the election.

“President Jonathan, without doubt is the hero of this election, he deserves a Nobel Peace Prize for his indelible conduct, prior to, during and after the election, as he has saved lives of many Nigerians and non-Nigerians from probable violence that is to take place after the election,” the LP said.

“The beauty of democracy is the campaign, election and declaration. To be a loser, there must be a winner and for a winner to emerge there must be a loser. It is complimentary of each – ceteris pari bus. May the Almighty God heals our land.

Thought it said the just concluded presidential election was fraught with pitfalls, the LP noted that there has never been a perfect election in the country.

It argued that the use of card readers without test-running them in elections of smaller scale had given room for manipulation during the March 28 presidential election.

The LP indicated that it is not President Goodluck Jonathan who lost the election but Nigerians who were denied the opportunity to vote due to defective smartcard readers.

Nevertheless, the party pleaded for peace and urged our leaders to pursue justice within the ambit of the law.
The Labour Party says the President needs to demonstrate statesmanship by appealing to his supporters and kinsmen to remain calm.
