Endorsement: Ondo APC Elders Back Tinubu

THE Elders Assembly of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ondo State, yesterday, resolved to back Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on his endorsement of one of the aspirants, Dr. Segun Abraham.

Rising from a meeting in Akure, the elders of the party said they decided to tow the line of Tinubu whom they described as the South West leader of the party. Addressing newsmen, chairman of the group, Senator Olurunimbe Farunkanmi said that despite the endorsement, the primaries would be free, fair and transparent.

On his part, deputy chairman of the Elders Assembly, Chief Atanda Elemeje explained that the endorsement should not be taken as imposition and that a motion was moved to discourage aspirants from camping delegates and it was unanimously passed.

A member of the Assembly Chief Muyide Adu also moved a motion of a vote of confidence on Kekemeke describing him as “a loyal party man that promotes the interest of the party above his personal interest.” The motion was seconded by Dr. Samuel Akerele and Sir Adeoye Akintade and subsequently passed by voice vote. Meanwhile, the embattled state chairman, Mr Isaac Kekemeke has disclosed that he would not be exercising his right to vote in Saturday’s governorship primary election of the party.

Accused of doing the bidding of a national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu, to favour one of the aspirants, Segun Abraham, the APC chairman said he had two months ago announced his decision to members of his executive committee. Kekemeke spoke, yesterday, after a trouble-shooting parley conveyed at the instance of the national leadership of the party in Abuja.

He said: “I have said repeatedly that I do not prefer any of the aspirants but I have also no power to deny anyone the constitutional right to prefer any aspirant. All I know is that I don’t have a preference, I have a vote. In the interest of perception, I did announce to the state working committee over two months ago that I was not going to vote.”
