Defend yourself before Senate or resign, CSOs tells Lamorde …. VANGUARD

EFCC-boss-Ibrahim-Lamorde

Embattled chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde, has been given seven-day ultimatum to appear before the Senate to defend himself against allegations of diversion of over N1 trillion proceeds recovered by the anti-graft agency or resign.

The group, which frowned on what it described as seeming foot-dragging on the part of Lamorde, wondered why he had failed to appear before the Senate Committee two weeks after the allegation was made public. The ultimatum was given by a group of Civil Society Organisations, under the aegis of Anti-Corruption Coalition, ACC.

Calling on the need for Lamorde to be probed, ACC’s National Coordinator, Comrade Mohammed, in a statement issued in Lagos, said: “It has been two weeks since the nation was greeted with series of weighty allegations of fraud against the EFCC Chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde as contained in a petition submitted to the Senate by a whistleblower, Mr George Uboh.

“Recalled that on August 26, the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions held a public hearing on the allegations of fraud against Lamorde but he snubbed the panel.”

Two weeks after, Mr. Lamorde is yet to appear before the Senate Committee or offer the Nigerian public which taxes are being used to pay his salary as well as fund the agency, any explanation or defence. We found this strange, abnormal and ridiculous.
