Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, through his Dangote Foundation, is building a N7bn state-of-the-art operating theatre and diagnostic centre at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano.
The Chief Executive, Dangote Foundation, Ms Halima Dangote, said during a visit to the Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, that the project would be completed next year.
Halima also said that the routine immunisation programme of the Foundation was being extended to Bauchi, Yobe, Maiduguri and Katsina.
She added that the Foundation’s business school’s project at the Bayero University, Kano had gulped N524m, even as it had injected N500m into Kano School of Technology.
She described some of the projects as “game changing projects” to be completed in the next two years.
Responding, Ganduje said the President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, had done a lot for the people of Kano who remain forever grateful to him.
He singled out the contribution of the Foundation to the fight against polio disease, adding that it was indeed a massive intervention.
The governor said with the help of the Dangote Foundation, the state would soon be given a polio free certificate.
“We are ready to do anything to support your efforts,” Ganduje told Halima and her entourage.
He described the Dangote’s intervention at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital as massive, saying the facility was one of the oldest in West Africa.
The Foundation, according to Halima, has also completed the construction of seven out of the 11 primary health care centres it was building in the state.
At a handover ceremony of one of the health care centres in Gwale Local Government, she said the 11 health centres would cost the Foundation N72m.
She said her father would prefer that most of his interventions were not mentioned in public, adding that the Foundation would continue to assist the poor and support government’s efforts around the world.
The Executive Director, Stakeholders’ Relations and Corporate Communications, Dangote Foundation, Mr. Mansur Ahmed, said the new health care centre would help the people in the community to overcome most of their health challenges.
He urged the people of Kano to always pray for Dangote and support his companies.
The Permanent Secretary, Kano State Ministry of Health, Abba Kailani, expressed the government’s appreciation and promised to support the health care centres through staffing.
Meanwhile, the Dangote Group has concluded arrangements to build a multi-million naira 500 megawatts electricity generation plant in Kano.
Ahmed made this disclosure during the Dangote special day at the 36th Kano International Trade Fair, where the Dangote Cement mega promo triggered sales.
According to him, the power plant, which is part of the philanthropic gesture of the company, is meant to support the government in the provision of electricity for the people in Jigawa, Katsina and some parts of Kaduna states.
