Former military Head of State General Mohammadu Buhari (rtd) seems to be interested in Nigeria’s number one job.
Gen. Buhari, who was the presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in the 2011 election, told the CPC Contact and Mobilization Committee meeting for the North west zone in Kaduna that if given the mandate, he was prepared to transform the country for good.
The former Head of State, who said that the fact that people’s votes were not allowed to count in previous elections was responsible for the lack of development in the country, promised not to disappoint Nigerians – if given the mandate in 2015.
Saying that the 2003, 2007 and 2011 elections lacked fairness, Gen. Buhari urged Nigerians to ensure that their votes count in the forthcoming elections by engaging in grassroots mobilization to have credible people occupying positions of leadership.
The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the CPC, said “in 2015, if given the mandate, I will uphold your trust”.
Gen. Buhari, who noted that the nation was on the verge of collapse under the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stressed the need for urgent action that will put the country back on the right track.
He urged members of the party and other progressive minded Nigerians to embrace the merger of opposition parties to wrest power from the PDP and give every Nigerian a sense of belonging.
The National Co-ordinator of the committee, Senator Solomon Ewuga, said the Northwest meeting was aimed at sensitizing party members to the planned merger of opposition parties.
Ewuga said that the CPC governorship candidate in Kaduna State during the 2011 election, Alhaji Haruna Sa’eed, has been appointed as the Northwest Zonal Chairman for the committee. The state chairman of the party, Ahmadu Yaro Coca-Cola, will be the state co-ordinator.
JD:I am not too sure i am comfortable with Buhari contesting in 2015.In the first instance I feel it might put pressure on the alliance as i think choosing a neutral person as candidate might reduce tension within the party.Secondly i am wondering if Buhari actually possesses the skills for good governance.I believe our country needs young technocrats to get it out of its current mess and Buhari might be better off being the Chairman of the party and providing strategic support to whoever holds the mantle.
At what age is he planning to come and take Nigeria to his “heaven”? At seventy-? What do these people expect of us? I dont gerrit! So in the whole of Nigeria we dont have any young, vibrant, charismatic, intelligent leader like Fashola(not a politician though), Obama etc. make e go rest abeg…whatever he knows and wants to contribute, we reject it. He shed tears in the last elections, I dont want no old man weeping his heart out in the next one please.
