Bode George: With Saraki’s Emergence, Tinubu is Five Minutes to His Political Sunset

Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has hailed the emergence of Senator Bukola Saraki as Senate President.

George, who spoke in London, said Saraki’s emergence is an indication that the former governor of Lagos State and National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, “is five minutes to his political sunset”. To the PDP chieftain, Saraki’s election and that of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, “has proved that national politics is better than zonal politics.”

“Since 1999, the PDP is known for playing national politics and we will continue to do just that, whether we are in the opposition or not.  “The APC is a congregation of strange bed fellows and Tinubu erroneously still thinks that his party will continue to play the type of politics of imposition he is playing in Lagos.

“As the ruling party at the national level, the game has changed. Tinubu is yet to wake from his politics of imposition. He should quickly realise now that it is five minutes to his political sunset.

“What happened in Abuja today (yesterday) is a welcome development for national and rational politics. Tinubu and his fellow dreamers have zoned themselves to total irrelevance. This is a sign of more things to come.”

  1. Wikipedia defines “thought-terminating cliché” as “a commonly used phrase, or folk wisdom, sometimes used to quell cognitive dissonance. Though the clichéd phrase in and of itself may be valid in certain contexts, its application as a means of dismissing dissent or justifying fallacious logic is what makes it thought-terminating”
Such cliché that has been flying around Nigerian political space for years now is “politics of imposition”. Another version of it is “We cannot be taking orders from one man’s bedroom”. These clichés are usually bandied around by opponents of Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu and they always work wonders!
Let’s be clear about something, Asiwaju is a card carrying member of APC and he has the right to back any candidate he wants. Same right as every member of the party. His opponents need to get creative and stop resorting to same ole tired cliché!

  2. My brother and friend, Mr. Ogunmadewa Folorunso, got it wrong there. If he has been following events very well, he would have seen that it is for the same sentiments of his that APC is not in support of Senator Bukola Saraki’s emergence as the Senate President. Instead, Senator Ahmen Lawan from the North East is preferred.

In the case of the House, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila enjoyed the support of members on merit. And but for the vindictive politics being played by PDP, he could still have emerged winner on Tuesday in the House.

If truth must be told, block votes from the South West in support of those from the north(PMB’s base) gave the party victory in March elections. Therefore, to give South West Nos 2 & 4 positions, while North holds Nos 1 & 3 should be considered fair enough. Efforts of Gov. Adams Oshiomole and former Gov. Rotimi Amaechi should earn the South South either the position of SFG or Chief of Staff to the President. It is rational for one to reap where ever one sows.

In the light of the above, my brother Mr. O. Folorunso can now understand why Jagaban’s influence should not be seen as overbearing. If anything, he is playing the father figure role, to ensure that anyone does not reap from where he did not sow. It is the likes of Senator Bukola Saraki that has become treacherous due to inordinate ambition.

With respect to Chief Bode George’s utterances, neither him nor others like him should be blamed. Rather, they deserve pity. This is because they are jealous of Jagaban’s achievements in regional politics, which has now translated to success at the national level. Having been unsuccessful for 16years in breaking Lagos, his domain, away from Jagaban’s grip, one should not expect him to be happy at Jagaban’s progress in politics. Unfortunately, whoever God lifts up, no one can bring down. Whether they like it or not, it has pleased God to place Jagaban above the likes of Chief Bode George in Nigerian politics. Nothing can be done to change that.

In reality, he, Chief Bode George, is the one that is less than 5seconds away from his political sunset, not Jagaban, whose political sunrise is just beaming. God bless Nigeria.

  3. @Mr Jimi Disu,
am a very regular listerner and follower of your programme.
Personally, i think Jagadan should hv looked for somebody from Edo atleast for the speaker other than Gbajabiamila. As a yoruba man, am not too comfortable with yoruba VP, Yoruba Speaker and possibly Yoruba President of senate; se na we alone dey Naija?
    Anyhow, the game continues….

  4. “Even if pepper is 100pcs for a pee, its not from the chicken mouth we should hear of it” mr bode george is never in the right position to cast aspersion on Jagaban. Its the industry of Jagaban that produced the change everybody is claiming.
The mis-rule of 16yrs cannot be easily forgotten and if not for jagaban, the slavery may continue for the next 60yrs.
Jagaban is a far better politician than 50 of bode george put together.
I will only implore gmb to be careful because very soon he will need the man, Atiku is waiting in the wings to ensure that gmb does not rule more than a term. You will say somebody said so.

  7. in my opinion, the real change has began. more is expected. The polity will be heated in this dispensation. we hope it will not lead to distraction. let us wait and see.

  8. This man should stop deceiving himself,Nigerians are fully aware of our rights, they should allow the president to focus & lets see if we can come out of this quagmire our past leaders have subjected us.Another fuel scarcity is in the offing.
