Ask Laura: The Timid Christian by Laura Oloyede

This is going to be a straight talk and it is on an issue that has been on my mind for a while. Sometimes I literally have to ask God to give me boldness and utterance to speak His word.

Have you noticed that it has become pathetically acceptable to not want to uphold God’s word? While some people do not know what the word says because they have not given themselves to self-study; as such, do not do as the word commands, others have studied to know the word but they do not do what the word says because it is socially incorrect to. These are the people who so crave for social acceptance in place of being God’s general. (This has nothing to do with church positions and I hope you understand that this message is directed to believers). Another sad trend is when you see a believer condemn a fellow believer for wanting to uphold what Jesus says. Statements like: holier than thou; are you the only Christian? etc are often used to bring down the zeal of another who strives to be like Christ-like. You cannot walk with Jesus and walk with the world.

Let us look at these few scriptures:

ü  If you love me, keep my commandments (John 14: 15)

ü  Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them (John 14: 23)

ü  You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. (Mathew 10: 22)

ü  If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you.…(John 15: 18 – 19)

There are also some who try to live a lifestyle in line with the word of God but they do so apologetically. The child of a king does not apologize for being kingly.

According to Forbes, the net worth of Bill Gates is 79.3 billion USD; now imagine that you are his child: would you timidly say things like, ‘I am sorry to be Gates’ child but I would like to share some tips on business success as I have watched my father……….’ Would you not speak authoritatively? Would you apologize for being the child of Bill Gates? How then is it that we hide our identity with our Father, Who is the King of Kings, and the Lord of Lords? Should we be embarrassed to be associated with the Most High God? Should we feel timid when referring to His word amongst our friends, associates and family?

My dear friend, stand up and be counted for the Lord.  Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit that raised Jesus from the death dwells in you? (I Corinthians 3:16) (Romans 8;11)

Ask the Lord to give you boldness and utterance to live His word as you walk through life.

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ keep you. Amen
