APC Expels Jibrin, Suspended Lawmaker | TheCable

The All Progressives Congress(APC) chapter in Bebeji local government area of Kano state has expelled Abdulmumin Jibrin, suspended member of the house of representatives.

Sani Ranka, chairman of the party in the local government, hinged the action on alleged anti-party activities by Jibrin.

Ranka accused the former chairman house committee on appropriations of promoting divisive tendencies.

“The party will not condone indiscipline and disrespect to leaders or duly constituted authority. We hereby inform the world that Jibrin has been expelled from our great party,” he said at a press briefing on Thursday.

Other party executives at the briefing said stakeholders reached a unanimous decision to expel Jibrin.

The lawmaker had accused Yakubu Dogara, the speaker, and some principal officers of the house of padding the 2016 budget, an allegation which those listed denied.

Apart from raising budget padding allegations, Jibrin had also ‎said some lawmakers were not “worthy” to belong to the house.

He was accused of misconduct and the house directed its ethics committee to probe him. The panel recommended his suspension, and Jibrin was suspended for 180 legislative days, which is approximately one year.

Earlier in the week, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) invited Jibrin over the budget padding allegations.

When TheCable contacted him for his response, Jibrin promised to get in touch later.

“I will call back for a response,” he said in response to a text message.
