Alaafin: Ooni Can Never Die …. THISDAY

Despite his demise recently, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, monday put aside his differences with  the late Ooni of Ife,  Oba Okunade Sijuwade Olubuse II, to eulogise him, saying “Ooni as an institution, will live forever.”

The Chairman of the Oranyan Planning Committee for Alaafin of Oyo, who spoke on behalf of the Alaafin, Archbishop Ayo Ladigbolu (rtd) in Oyo town as part of activities marking the commencement of the festival, said: “Let me tell you that Ooni never dies. Ooni is not dead. What happened is the going home of Oba Okunade Sijuwade Olubuse II. The Ooni lives forever.”

When asked to advise Ile-Ife kingmakers who are in the process of selecting a new king, he said: “We are not entitled to speak on this issue. The only competent authority is Alaafin and when it is appropriate, he will make comments.”

Speaking on the celebration of Oranyan, he underscored the importance of the progenitor, Odede Oranyan, noting that explained the presence of its shrine in Ile-Ife, Oyo town, Pobe and Ibadan.

Before the death of Oba Sijuwade, there had been a strained relationship between him and Alaafin.

A foremost Yoruba traditional ruler , the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, monday  called  on Nigerians to be patient with President Muhammadu Buhari and look beyond his 100 days in office.

Oba Adeyemi spoke in Osogbo after a private meeting with the Osun State Governor, Mr,Rauf Aregbesola at the Government House,Osogbo.

Alaafin of Oyo believed that the  president was taking his time to painstakingly address the various challenges confronting the country.
While urging the president not to be distracted Oba Adeyemi expressed hope that President Buhari would not disappoint Nigerians pleading with  them to be patient with him.

He equally urged the people of the state to assist the governor in the developmental efforts.
